History of the Mu Rho Chapter

Discover the rich history of our chapter, formerly known as the Eta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Established on the University of Minnesota St. Paul campus on December 12, 1922, our legacy rooted in a commitment to sisterhood and service, took a pivotal turn in 1964. Driven by a passion for social justice, our members made the bold decision to depart and fight in the pursuit of civil rights. As a result, the Eta Chapter was automatically dissolved. In its place, Mu Rho emerged on March 25, 1979. Since 1979 we've made it our duty to honor the courage of our predecessors and continue their legacy of advocacy, empowerment, and positive change in our community and beyond.

The Mu Rho Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was chartered March 25, 1979 at University of Minnesota -Twin Cities. Since 1979, Mu Rho has flourished in many areas including sisterhood, academics, and service. We serve the on-campus community through events such as Skee Week, our annual midnight breakfast, and study nights. We also serve the Twin Cities community by volunteering for college preparation initiatives, initiative to address world hunger, such a Feed My Starving Children, our childhood hunger initiative and more. We value the importance of integrity, responsibility, and respect, which help us to keep our sisterhood strong.
